From Our Founder

From repair and reuse of clothing to new, greener ways to make food, drinks and other everyday products, these were some of the themes we recently saw as we covered the events of Climate Week in San Francisco.

What stood out most is how practical many of these ideas are becoming and how baked in they are to some interesting products. Yes, we talked (and tasted) a lot — including wine, chocolate and beer (all for the greater good, of course). It’s less about future concepts and more about what’s starting to show up right now.

In this issue, we’re sharing a few of those takeaways alongside some timely offers and recent finds.

Chocolate, Wine & Beer: Seeing Green Did the Hard Work

From chocolate to wine to beer, some of the most interesting ideas we saw during Climate Week showed up in categories people already know and enjoy, and we wanted to share these with you.

We got the chance to go behind the scenes with TCHO Chocolate and Savor to explore the future of chocolate making. Video here. We also heard from Frog’s Leap Winery and Lost Valley Wines about more sustainable approaches to wine. Videos here and here. And we got to tour to see how beer-making is being rethought with Almanac Brewery and Aircapture. Video here.

Each edition, we rotate categories and share a few featured picks that are among Seeing Green’s faves — and perhaps your next ones as well.

QUICK SWAP

Swap: Cleaner, Greener Sweets

Instead of traditional candy made with artificial ingredients and heavy processing, a growing number of brands are rethinking sweets with simpler ingredients and more thoughtful formulations.

The candy aisle is starting to feel a bit different, with options that lean organic, clean ingredients, plant-based or lower-impact without losing the fun. We recently explored this shift through YumEarth and Candy Kittens to see how these newer approaches actually stack up.

PODCAST: EPISODE OF THE WEEK

Each week, we’re pulling out a favorite episode from the Seeing Green Podcast to revisit and suggest giving it a listen.

Spotlight: MATE the Label

From the clothes we wear every day to how they’re made and discarded, fashion carries a footprint that often goes unseen. But brands like MATE the Label are showing how things can be done differently, from organic materials and low-impact dyes to local production and take-back programs designed with circularity in mind.

In this episode of the Seeing Green Spotlight Series, we take a closer look at MATE the Label and how it’s rethinking everyday apparel through a “clean from seed to skin” approach, offering a more transparent, lower-impact way to build a wardrobe.
